    WIFVNE Presents: Legal & Business Workshops for Creatives
    Protect Your Work. Understand the Business. Build Your Career.

    WIFVNE invites filmmakers, producers, and creatives of all kinds to join us for a our final session of this workshop series designed to demystify the legal and business side of the creative industry. Led by Paige Williams, an entertainment attorney with deep experience in independent film production, financing, and distribution, each session will equip attendees with the knowledge to protect their work, navigate contracts, and approach distribution with confidence.

    Session 3: Independent Distribution

    Saturday, July 26 · 1:00–2:30 PM (ET)

    Explore how to prepare your project for market, find funding opportunities, and negotiate licensing deals. Ideal for indie filmmakers looking to distribute their work to a broader audience.

    This workshop will be offered both in person at Studio Lab and virtually via Zoom. Each session includes a live Q&A.


    Paige Williams is an attorney licensed in the state of California with a career spanning multiple areas of the entertainment industry. Her focus lies in independent film production, financing, and distribution. Most recently, she served as Director of Business and Legal Affairs for an independent film production and sales company in Los Angeles.

    Currently, Paige leads Business Affairs & Acquisitions at Helmet Fire Productions, where she works with projects of all sizes from concept to screen. Helmet Fire offers legal and business consulting, production project management, and creative development services for independent film and television productions.

    Lights, Camera, Connect! Your next collaborator could be one conversation away. Join WIFVNE for an exciting evening of creative connection in Portland, Maine on Thursday, August 7th from 5-7 PM. (Location to be announced soon) Whether you’re a filmmaker, writer, producer, student, or industry ally, this event is your chance to connect with others shaping New England’s vibrant media landscape.

    Hosted by WIFVNE Vice President and WIFT-US VP Wendy S. Wilkins with two outstanding Maine-based creatives as our special guests, Elizabeth Searle (Co-writer of I’LL SHOW YOU MINE (Duplass Brothers Productions), fiction author, playwright, and faculty at Stonecoast MFA.) and Allen Baldwin (Producer, Sundance Fellow, and co-founder of Damnationland film showcase.)

    This is a casual, welcoming space for artists and media professionals to meet, share work, and spark collaborations. Open to all—no membership required.

    SPECIAL GUESTS:
    Elizabeth Searle is co-writer of the feature film I’LL SHOW YOU MINE (Duplass Brothers Productions, 2023), starring Poorna Jagannathan. The film was released in select theaters and is now widely available on home screens, including on AmazonPrime, Peacock and AppleTV.  Elizabeth is also the author of a rock opera and of 5 books of fiction, with a new book out in the Fall.  Her novel A FOUR-SIDED BED is in development as a feature film and is the basis of FOUR-SIDED, a short film that has screened at over 20 festivals.  She teaches fiction and scriptwriting at Stonecoast MFA (University of Southern Maine).  www.elizabethsearle.net

    Born and raised in Norridgewock, Maine, Allen Baldwin has been putting together films with independent flair and a DIY attitude for over fifteen years. He attended Bowdoin College before moving to Portland, Maine, where he lives today. He is the co-founder of Damnationland, a long-running short dark genre film showcase of Maine filmmakers. Recently, he produced Derek Kimball’s feature film debut “Neptune,” which has screened at Slamdance, the Nashville Film Festival, the Atlanta Film Festival, and over a dozen other fests around the world. Allen was a Fellow at the Sundance Creative Producing Summit in 2017, and has an MFA in Scriptwriting from Stonecoast.

    WIFVNE Table Tuesdays -- the last Tuesday of every month!

    Experience new work from fresh voices in film and television at WIFVNE’s Table Read Tuesdays! Held virtually on the last Tuesday of each month, each session features a live reading of an original script performed by WIFVNE member actors, followed by a feedback discussion with the writer. Titles are announced monthly.

    Admission is $5 for the general public and free for WIFVNE members. Reserve your spot and support emerging writers and performers in our community!
